Parents FAQ

Many parents are concerned about their sons rushing for numerous reasons. While many of these concerns stem from stereotypes of the Greek system, these concerns are still very real.

Will there be drinking at rush events?

Absolutely not. The main purpose of the rush process is to get to know your son as a person, and we do not believe that giving them alcohol aids this process in any way.

My son's grades are very important; will the house be a distraction from his academic efforts?

Academic excellence is very important to our house. With the personally close living conditions, we are able to hold each other to much stricter academic standards than would be possible otherwise. We make every possible effort to instill strong study habits in our members, and to motivate and support their academic efforts. In addition, our members come from a wide range of majors, and have taken many of the classes which your son will likely take. With such a wide range of experience, our members are in a unique position to help our new members.

What does living at Phitau cost, compared to the dorms?

For a normal quarter, living in the house costs just slightly more than living in the dorms. However, there is a $200 new-member fee for the first quarter in the house, a $65 dollar fee for the associate badge, and between $200-$350 dollars for the initiation pin. In addition, your son will need to own formal attire for our weekly chapter meetings, and for several social events.

What is the food like?

Our house has a full-time cook who prepares lunch and dinner five days a week, and provides cold breakfast. Our chef is a beloved member of the house, and while there is no way for everyone to like everything he cooks, his meals are well balanced, and he tries to expose to a wide variety of foods.
